Gene's is great. I work in the Peninsula near all the big shots: Draeger's, Bianchini's, Trag's. Piazza's....etc.

This place holds its own.

Got some sushi here yesterday and it was a treat for sure.

All the staff is helpful and I like coming here every so often. Out of the way for most, but if your in P-town hit this place up for quality meats and seafood.

Best market in Pleasanton. They have a great meat counter and provide great service. If you had one of those bad Safeway experiences pick your spirits up with a trip to Gene's

Two things stand out at Gene's...

1) Their deli sandwiches

2) The meat department

Their sandwiches are as good as you'll get from any deli. You walk up to the counter, pick one of the many fresh rolls/breads and then just let them know whatever you want to pack that roll with.

The cuts of meat here are bar none the best in town. Some will say it is way to expensive, but I am a firm believer in paying more for super high quality cuts of meat. They have just about any cut you can possibly desire and they also have a very decent selection of fresh fish and seafood as well.

If you are looking for an awesome sandwich or a great cut of meat, Gene's is the one place in Pleasanton that I would highly recommend.

5 stars for this fabulous cheese here called St. Andre, which I discovered from my bf. This store wants to be a shi-shi type in that it's no run of the mill Albertson's. They sell more exclusive items and it's worth the trip if you're craving for something fussy. Try the cheese though; it's extremely rich so you may want to share it with a group of folks. Don't let the layer of fur fool you, though! I swear, it's edible! It says so on the box...:)

Great grocery store. The store itself isn't huge but it still does have a wide variety of products and pretty much everything you need. Sometimes, however, a supplementary Safeway trip might be necessary to grab a few things don't carry.
A few things I love about Gene's:
- Huge selection of my favorite food group.. CHEESE!
- Great deli. The deli meats are fantastic however their sandwiches are so-so. Still, the deli meats are phenomenal.
- Fresh baked breads from Acme bakery along with a variety of other fresh baked breads. Gene's is by far my favorite place to pick up some fresh bread.
- Marianne's ice cream. Need I say more???
- By far, the best fruits and vegetables in the area. Whole Foods, Safeway, etc. can't compete! Produce guys are always super friendly and love to help you pick the best ones!
Prices might be a little higher than other grocery stores but when you consider the quality and superior customer service, the value far exceeds the cost!
